NutritionHow to Have Longterm Weight Loss Success

December 6, 2021by Mike Phoutrides0

How many times have you been on a weight loss program that was working splendidly? Were you were dropping pounds on schedule? Was your waist was tightening up how you thought it would? Did you hit your goal weight on your goal date?

Imagine you answered affirmatively to those last three questions

Now, when you hit that goal at that specified time, how much unbridled overeating did you do?

How much weight did you gain back?

We get it

What you’re about to read is going to sound like cruel and unusual punishment, and it may even sound like some horrible joke, but failure to plan your diet after your completed weight loss program is a big reason why you hear so many people reversing all their weight loss success over time and gaining back the weight they fought so diligently to lose. Additionally, this is why you hear horror stories of victims who have been used by Yo-yo Diet Profiteers and their cruel crash diets. You hear of these victims dropping considerable cash and wasting months of their lives only to have packed on more body fat in the longterm after the snake oil has run its course. What this blog does, and what Cornerstone Weight Loss can do for you, is equip you with the knowledge you need to better understand how food affects your body in a common sense way that will put you in control of how you look. In reading this particular blog post you will gain some knowledge of what it means to set up your diet after your weight loss plan is compete in order to increase your longterm weight loss success.

What does your diet look like after your weight loss program is competed?

You’re going to think that we are totally disregarding any ownership on your part here, but this is not your fault. You don’t know what you don’t know, and many Yo-yo Diet Profiteers capitalize on not telling you the full story of everything that goes into longterm weight loss. These unscrupulous Yo-yo Diet Profiteers need you coming back over and over again because that’s how they make their money. They don’t really want you to know how food affects your body in a common sense way because they don’t want you in control of how you look. They need you as dependent as possible.

From previous blog posts, there has been an ongoing metaphor that puts together a great picture of what a strong, solid, longterm weight loss plan looks like, akin to building a home. It starts with a strong and level foundation that we call your Metabolic Snapshot (click, scroll down, and wait for the pop-up), its framed by the foods you love eating called your Big Rocks, and the walls that keep out the harsh winds of hunger are likened to the dietary fiber you are now diligently eating. You can consider this diet after your weight loss program as the preventative maintenance plan for the beautiful home you are building.

How does this preventative maintenance plan for longterm weight loss success work?

Fantastic question! Please read the next statement carefully.

After reaching your goal weight you slowly add back the calories you restricted leading to your goal date.

This means that a great weight loss program scenario is reaching your goal weight some time before your goal date. When that goal weight is reached you slowly, meticulously, and accurately consume more and more calories leading to your goal date. This seems very simple and easy, but given that you have been reducing calories for some time, this can end up being the most challenging part of your weight loss program. It’s difficult to stress this enough, but this is the most important part for your longterm success. Feel free to disagree here, but this is where professional help is the most-needed.

Here’s a brief example of a great preventative maintenance plan.

Imagine you’re looking to lose 10 pounds using a three month weight loss program, a great goal! Imagine further that the goal date is September 1, so you’re starting this weight loss program on June 1, perfect!

Now, commonplace weight loss guidance would tell you to make sure you hit that weight loss goal (the 10 pound reduction) on the end date of your weight loss program, September 1.

*Side note: what you’re about to read is going to go against the way you think about weight loss, and that’s ok. We understand this may be new to you, and sometimes a small tweak with a fresh approach can make the difference between common and uncommon results.

Imagine changing the goal date of your 10 pound reduction, but keeping total time allotment for your weight loss program.

For example, losing that 10 pounds by August 1, instead of September 1!

It seems like getting to the goal weight before the end of the total time allotment for your weight loss program allows you to start your preventative maintenance program. This diet after the weight loss program is a slow, meticulous, and accurate increase in calories over time leading to your goal date.

Let’s quickly go over what this diet after the weight loss program does for you. This list is NOT exhaustive!

By incorporating a preventive maintenance plan in your weight loss program you increase its effectiveness by:

  • Slowly ramping up your NEAT (Don’t know what that is? Go here)
  • Slowly increase calories over time without a massive explosion of calories in one day, putting your body in a better condition to consume closer to your normal, pre-weight loss program calorie range. This helps stave off putting back on much of the body fat you just lost!
  • Allows your workout intensiveness to ramp back up, giving you better workouts and maintaining your new, 10-pounds-lighter body.
  • Allows for certain hormones that regulate hunger to better normalize.

This preventative maintenance plan is one of the greatest ways to position yourself for longterm weight loss success. Giving yourself some extra time to slowly increase your calories before the end date of your weight loss program helps keep you from gaining that weight back and wasting all that effort.

This may be new concept to you, we get it. It’s important to find a guide who has experience doing this in order to make sure you have longterm success in your weight loss endeavors, as well as help you not lose more precious time and hard-earned money.
