Exercise3 Reasons Exercise May Not Be Enough

November 22, 2021by Mike Phoutrides0

If you’ve landed on this blog post because you have been rigorously getting after it in the gym for a while and are not seeing the results you were hoping for, you’re in the right spot. It seems so frustrating that so much physical and mental effort can be invested into your overall weight loss plan just to hit a plateau, or worse, go backwards.

We get it.

As you read on, you’ll see that slight modifications to how you look at your overall weight loss plan can get you back on the path of positive results and keep you from wasting more precious time and effort.

Let’s get to work!

1. The More You Train, The More You Need to Train

Feel free to disagree here, but if you’ve been in the gym for a time, you’ve probably noticed that you need to do more and more just to keep up with your own body. Noticing this pattern, what have you been doing about it? What are you modifying to bust through that plateau? If you’re just spending more and more time in the gym (we’ve fallen into that trap before) you may just need a slight nudge in a different direction to avoid wasting more time and effort. Read on!

2. It’s Not Time, Its Volume! Plus THE Most Important Part…

How do you track your workouts? If you answered “I don’t” it’s alright, most people do not, hence all the wasted time in the gym. Think back to your last bench pressing session, how did the sets and reps look?

Did they look like something close to this:

Bench Press: 135 x 10 / 155 x 8 / 205 x 6 / 225 x 4 ?

*Notice the proportional increase in weight and decrease in number of reps.

Here’s a fun exercise to determine if you’re actually increasing the load on your muscles: look at the total training volume per set.

Training volume per set = weight x reps

Example: a 135 x 10 set has training volume of 1350.

Using the bench pressing session example above, the training volume goes like this: 1350 / 1240 / 1230 / 900

What do you see here?

We have seen this problem with many of the hard-working clients like you we have worked with previously, and it’s not even close to the biggest issue killing many people’s weight loss plans.

The most important part to any weight loss plan is understanding how the food you’re eating is affecting your body in a common sense way.

When you’re able to do this you’ll be able to take control of how you look, forever.

3. The Greatest Workout Plan Won’t Outrun Poor Food Choices

The time, effort, and energy it takes to negate an extra 500 calories that snuck into your diet unawares will kill your weight loss program. The longer this goes on, the more your morale will plunge, and the more likely your weight loss program will fail.

How you can know how many calories you may be overeating?

Great question!

We have developed a complementary PDF that will guide you in discovering how many calories you require daily to maintain your weight. We call it your Metabolic Snapshot.  You can get it here. Click, scroll down, wait for the pop-up, and fill out the form as it appears on the screen and you’ll be on your way to creating the solid, level foundation for longterm weight loss success you deserve. Don’t worry, we’ll never spam your email.

Half the battle of overeating that’s negating your workouts and foiling your weight loss program is simply paying attention. As surprising as it sounds, paying attention is a skill that can be learned, just as this writer’s mentor taught in a former blog post.

You need someone who knows the game of weight loss

The skill of paying attention to the food you’re eating seems to be the missing component to your fitness plans, especially if you’re noticing that working out is not enough. We all learned how to eat as infants, but many of us did not learn how food affects our body to give us the certain results we want. Contrary to popular belief, learning how food affects your body does not need to be a total life-disrupting event; giving up whole food groups can be entirely unnecessary. Taking what you’re already eating and looking at it a different way is what it takes for most people seeking to get their ideal look, and, most of the time, all you need is a guide to show you the way.
