NutritionHow Can Weight Loss Programs Be One-Size-Fits-All?

October 4, 2021by Mike Phoutrides0

That’s an important question.

How important is longterm, enduring weight loss to you?

Imagine yourself back at that gym, seeing the single-digit body fat anomaly eating the candy bar. (If you don’t know who this is, start here). You’ve put the genetics excuse on the back-burner for now and you’re possibly entertaining other reasons why the anomaly is allowed to be the way the anomaly is. You’re letting your mind wander in the direction that control over how you look could be a skill to learn, rather than a roll of the dice in the cosmic casino.

What does “one-size-fits-all” mean to you?

If you’re reading a dieting book, watching a fitness YouTube channel, perusing a muscle magazine, staying up too late watching ab destroyer infomercials, etc., and you’re thinking that the cookie-cutter methods you’re seeing may be the “magic bullet” you’ve been looking for, would it be a horrible idea to consider this:

How can you think a one-size-fits-all weight loss program could be effective for everyone and be able to let go of the genetics excuse at the same time?

It seems that measurable results in weight-loss are no different than measurable results in anything. It looks like the important elements come down to developing the skill of paying close attention and using that learned skill to make small tweaks over time that yield desired lasting solutions…

…lasting solutions you deserve for your conscientiousness.

How many times has your focus wavered on a project and it ended-up failing in the longterm?

It could be that you’ve never been asked this question before, and that’s ok. From the time we are put in school we are taught to pay close attention in class to a particular subject or lesson, but it seems like the focus was more on the what and not the how.

In all my years of experience helping people like you better understand how food affects your body in a common sense way that puts you in control of how you look, the how –along with the what- seems to get you a lot further than you may initially think.

How only focusing on the what puts you at risk

You may be wondering how that could be. Most people don’t even have the drive to start a weight loss program, so how can this be risky?

That’s a fair concern.

It looks like solely focusing on the what of a weight loss program could end up costing you a great deal of extra time and money you weren’t planning on at the beginning. Yo-yo Diet Profiteers are banking on you not thinking about the longterm. They make their ongoing income from people like you and me coming back over-and-over again because we just didn’t ask any questions -or weren’t allowed to. Countless times have I heard of these predators feigning anger or labeling one of their clients (victims) a “science-denier” for just asking a question.

*Side note: not taking anyone’s word at face value and doing your due-diligence by asking questions IS science, this includes this blog. Please ask questions. Emails and comments are always welcome and you’ll never be labeled a “science-denier” for doing so. Feel free to send an email to mike@cornerstoneweightloss.com.

If you remember one thing, not knowing the how behind weight loss will keep you at the mercy of those who require you to remain ignorant for their ongoing, yo-yo diet profiteering. It sounds like less time and money is not your aim, less weight is.

Getting to the how

To answer the question that prompted this blog post, it looks like weight loss programs cannot be one-size-fits-all because one of the most important parts -the how- is dependent on you, the unique individual.

That answer probably sparked more questions, I get it, and that’s the point. When you purchase a book, read a blog, subscribe to a weight loss YouTube channel, hire a professional, etc., you are the one who is supposed to receive a service. You are not required to blindly follow orders in order to service some Yo-yo Diet Profiteer’s ego. If you’re given direction without explanation, the next action you ought to take is to question it. If a satisfactory answer is not given, its best to keep asking until you get one. In my opinion, if less-than-satisfactory answers to your questions become the norm, it’s time to part ways.

*Side note: It’s up to YOU to determine whether or not the answer given is satisfactory, so feel free to disregard this upcoming advice, but a good rule of thumb is to be satisfied only if the answer given can be backed by a peer-reviewed scientific study or you are made fully aware and accept that the response you are given is opinion and/or anecdotal.

Where to start

“Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.” Ecclesiastes 7:8 (KJV)

It’s well to agree with those statements. Measurable results are the aim, and patience to get the beginning right will pay off, both for your immediate need for weight loss and for your longterm understanding so you can take control of how you look for the rest of your life.

Remember that the first part of the mission of Cornerstone Weight Loss is to help you better understand how food affects your body in a common sense way? For your current weight loss goals and longterm understanding, a forensic approach to understand how your current diet is affecting your body right now is essential. This total clarity of your current eating habits is the foundation of proper weight loss that is sustainable. This most-important element of your weight loss program is the first and most-crucial line of defense that keeps the yo-yo dieting at bay and helps makes sure you don’t kill your weight loss plans before they begin.

In short, this is the bane of the Yo-yo Diet Profiteer’s existence.

This understanding and clarity of your current eating habits is referred to as the Metabolic Snapshot.

You may be thinking that the Metabolic Snapshot sounds way too technical for you to pull off by yourself and this may be too difficult of a task for you to do alone. You may also be thinking you don’t want to purchase something so beneficial for the beginning of your weight loss program without knowing what’s involved first.

I get it, and that’s why the blueprint for the Metabolic Snapshot is free for you. Absolutely feel free to refuse, but it’s a gift for taking the initiative to start the process of better understanding how food affects your body in a common sense way in order to take control of how you look.

This free tool in the form of a PDF will help you figure out where you stand metabolically and will help you judge how to begin your weight loss program.

You can get it for free here. (Click, scroll down, and wait for the pop-up).

You are a unique individual, why shouldn’t your weight loss program be unique to you?

It seems best to always take a targeted, forensic approach to problems when you can. In the past, when non-science-backed, fad diets were exploding onto the television and the internet and the world wasn’t as keen to the trickery, it was understandable to use a sloppy, cookie-cutter, one-size-fits all weight loss program to quickly lose some unwanted pounds.

Cornerstone Weight Loss was created because there seems to be a yearning for the truth in weight loss. It looks like all the sexy fad diets are losing their luster and good, hardworking, busy people like you would rather develop a weight loss program that is backed by something real and repeatable.

As you look for a weight loss program, it seems best to do yourself a favor and make sure it is tailored for you, specifically. Make sure that you begin your weight loss program knowing exactly where you stand, exactly where you want to go, and what it will take to get there in terms of time and difficulty.

Lasting solutions in weight loss cannot be one-size-fits-all.
